Frequently Asked Questions (Feel free to call or email us at any time to ask any questions!)

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, we ask that dogs are attended to at all times and are not left in the cabins alone. We ask that guests pay for any and all damages incurred by a dog. Please be aware that there are other dogs on the property.

Can we see the northern lights?

The BWCAW is often an excellent place to see the northern lights. The top of the hill at the resort is a particularly spectacular place to view them. Unfortunately they are fairly unpredictable and viewing also depends on the weather. Check out the aurora forecaster to see if the northern lights might be active during your visit.

Is there internet?

Yes, we have wifi access at the main lodge.

How far is the nearest grocery store?

Ely's grocery store (Zups market) is about a 20 min drive from the cabins. Hours vary.

What kind of boat can I rent?

We offer 16' Lund boat equipped with floors, swivel seats, personal floatation devices, and anchors, with 25 HP electric-start motors. Cabin rentals of 5 nights or more include a boat rental. We also have depth finders, aluminum canoes, and trolling motors. Because it is necessary to protect the wilderness and promote the tranquility and solitude of the BWCAW, motors are not to exceed 25hp as are the number of people entering the wilderness area.  Certain other restrictions regarding entry into the BWCAW may apply.  Please refer to the US Forest Service’s site at www.recreation.gov for further information.

What else is there to do in Ely?

Ely is full of fun activities for the whole family, from fishing, hiking, and canoeing, to taking a class at the local folk school, or visiting live wolves at the International Wolf Center or live bears at the American Bear Center. .  Check out our activities page for more information.

Can I bring my own boat?

Guests are welcome to bring their own boats and keep them at our central boat landing. Motors must not exceed 25 hp.

Is there cell phone reception?

There is reliable reception on top of the hill by the main lodge. Some of the cabins have spotty reception. Verizon and AT & T tend to do the best in this area.
