BWCA View at from Vosburgh's Custom Cabin Rentals in Ely, Minnesota

About Us

Vosburgh's Custom Cabin Rentals offers a unique approach to your Northwoods retreat. Our eight vacation homes are located on beautiful Moose Lake, the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Each has a breath-taking view of the lake, offers the remoteness and privacy of the Northwoods, and contains all the comforts of home. Vosburgh's has a cabin and an experience to suit any vacation requirement. All of the cabins are fully furnished and complimentary WIFI internet access is available in our main lodge.

Mike passed away in 2004, but Betsy, his wife, and Willy, his son continue to carry on the tradition of Custom Cabin Rentals. They have not changed the way things were run when it was Kirk's Cabins under Neal Kirk or Burly, who was Mike's Grandfather. Aside from modernizing the cabins, the flavor of the resort has not changed.

Our staff has over 40 years of combined resort and fishing experience here on Moose Lake, and will be happy to provide you with a guide or mark a map to help you find fish in proven locations. We are always available to answer questions or just for a chat. We invite you to visit us, relax, and enjoy the privacy of your home away from home, where hospitality is our language.

"We couldn't ask for a nicer place and time. Betsy & the staff were friendly and prompt. The cabin was clean, quiet, on a very scenic overlooking Moose Lake in the BWCAW. The Fishing was great. We would recommend a return trip in a minute!!!"

After completing her teaching career in Illinois, Betsy met Mike Vosburgh, fell in love, married, and moved to Ely, MN. Even though she knew nothing about running a resort, Mike offered tutelage, and they ran Custom Cabin Rentals as a team. They both loved meeting people and helping them enjoy this exquisite location while "unplugging" and forgetting time. As Mike always said, "Our people came as guests and left as friends."

That was true then and is so true now. Betsy looks forward to seeing her guests, who become friends. Each season ends up being a "class" reunion and she loves it.

Willy Vosburgh was born and raised on Moose Lake. After finishing high school in Ely he moved on to a graduate degree that eventually brought him back to teaching English at the local community college.

Summers have always been spent at Moose Lake. A jack of many trades, Willy is known as the dock boy extraordinaire. When he's not counting worms you'll probably find him in or around an airplane (he's a certified flight instructor) or hanging out with his bulldog, Lily.

Willy is a fourth generation resorter, following in the family footsteps.
