`Tis beginning to become fall in Ely and around the northland of Minnesota. We had a glorious summer with guests coming and leaving with big smiles on their faces. We think a good time was had by all, and we hope to see everyone back next summer.

Typical of temperature changes toward the beginning of fall, we often have fog rising from the lake. The air temperatures have begun to cool, but the water is still relatively warm. We are not talking about the Caribbean waters.

Not only do we have fog, but often in the more swampy areas, just as the sun is rising, there are patches of frost across grassy points that are near creeks. These patches result in awesome vistas.

On one of our several beautiful fall days, Willy went flying and captured a picture of the many ash and aspen groves wearing their bright yellow colors. Soon after that, they will turn golden and shimmer in the breezes - magnificent, but difficult to capture with still pictures.

Of course the maples were the first to lead the parade in the color changes. Their bright reds were gorgeous.

It is impossible to take a totally representative picture of how the trees with their multicolored coats on the Fernberg Road (County 18) appear as we drive from our resort to town. But even with the pavement in the middle of the picture, we hope you get an idea of how beautiful the trees are at this time of year. There are mostly pine trees on the other side of the road - still a beautiful green, but not nearly as colorful as on the other side of the road.

Our season has ended, so Willy, Joseph, and Donna have been busy taking the motors off the boats, pulling the boats on shore, and turning them over for the winter season.

Because it is the end of the season, the guys have had an opportunity to go fishing, usually at night. Willy and Donna happened to catch this 32 inch walleye on one of their evening excursions. Yes, they carefully released it and sent it home to have more babies. The babies will be waiting for you next summer, and should be the perfect eating size.
