Ely, Minnesota is located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), 120 miles north of Duluth, and 250 miles north-east of Minneapolis . From Ely it is 20 miles to our home and base of operations. Take Highway 169 east out of Ely to Winton where Highway 169 becomes County 18-the historic Fernberg Trail. Turn left on the Moose Lake road and in two miles signs will direct you to our hilltop lodge.
Our location offers you the expanse of the Moose Lake chain (Moose, Newfound, and Sucker), plus the massive Basswood Lake to fish without leaving your boat. Most of the water is limited to 25 HP motors in order to promote the tranquility and peace of the wilderness. The Moose Lake chain encompasses twelve miles of lakes with many bays loaded with varied structure, hold large-and small mouth bass, walleye, northern pike and blue gill. Basswood lake which is a short portage away, adds 1450 miles of legendary shoreline to your fishing pleasure. The Moose Lake area also has a number of designated trout lakes, stocked with splake, brook and rainbow trout to test your fishing expertise.
