Ely, Minnesota is
located about 120 miles north of Duluth, or about 250 miles north of
Minneapolis on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area.
Our location offers you the expanse of the Moose Lake chain (Moose, Newfound, Sucker, and Birch Lakes) to fish without leaving your boat. Most of the water is limited to 25 HP motors in order to promote the tranquility and peace of the wilderness. Twelve miles of lakes with many bays loaded with varied structure, hold large and small mouth bass, walleye, northern pike and blue gill. Basswood lake which is a short portage away, adds 1450 miles of legendary shoreline to your fishing pleasure. The Moose lake area also has a number of designated trout lakes, stocked with splake, brook and rainbow trout to test your fishing expertise. Many attractions such as mine tours, hiking trails, museums, numerous fairs and festivals, and various live entertainment events along with excellent shopping will round out your vacation stay.
